This most gladiatorial of sports has a fine history of video game adaptions, but the rise of MMA and UFC was fast and meteoric, and like a flying knee kick it swiftly knocked boxing games out of contention. It’s hard to emphasise for non-fans of boxing (or boxing video games) just how many hopes and dreams have been riding on Undisputed (formerly ESBC Boxing Club) to revive a genre that’s for all intents and purposes been dead since EA Sports’ Fight Night Champion back in 2011.īoxing used to be well-represented in video games–from Punch-Out!! On the NES, through early ‘realistic efforts riding off 90s heavyweights legends like George Foreman’s KO Boxing and Evander Holyfield’s ‘Real Deal’ Boxing, followed by a good couple of generations of EA Sports’ Knockout Kings (which then morphed into Fight Night).
